Conway Residential - February 2020

Date: 18th Feb 2020 @ 10:55am

A brilliant time was had by all on the Year 5/6 residential trip to Conway last week!

24 excited children - accompanied by Mr Pasquill, Mrs Monson and myself - arrived at Conway on Wednesday just before 12pm and had a tour around the centre, before settling into the accommodation and enjoying lunch. After lunch, it was time to put our waterproofs on before our first activity: raft building! We worked in two teams, in a race to create an effective raft which would float. It was fantastic to see such good team work! We worked hard to tie knots around the wooden poles, in order to tightly secure the barrels into place. We had a great time trying out our rafts on the water!

By 5:30pm everyone was ready for their evening meal which was delicious... a chicken roast dinner or tomato pasta, followed by a large choice of desserts including caramel mousse, strawberry jelly and flapjack.  After tea, we spent the first evening in the social room completing our activity booklets and taking part in a team quiz.

After a good night's sleep, we had a lovely breakfast in our dining room. There was lots to choose from, including toast, cereal, fruit, croissant, porridge, and a cooked breakfast. We then got all our layers and welly boots on ready for our next activities.

Year 5 spent the day canoeing and abseiling. It was lovely to see all of the children taking part in the activities with such enthusiasm. Year 6 spent the day canoeing and then moved on to the via ferrata. The children wowed me with their team work skills all day long, and it was so lovely to see the children encouraging and supporting one another, especially when having a go at the via ferrata. During the day we learnt about how the tide works, and how to look after the environment around us.

We returned for our evening meal at 5:30pm, and there was many options to choose from again, including curry and cottage pie. After enjoying a warm meal, we returned to the accommodation to get ready for the evening activity... disco! The children enjoying spening the evening dancing and singing!

On Friday morning we enjoyed our breakfast, before preparing for our final activities. Year 5 enjoyed a morning rock climbing, whilst Year 6 enjoyed a morning on the zipwire before toasting marshmallows around a camp fire. I was very impressed by Year 6's perserverence, as regardless of the weather, they carried on and excelled with their team work and support for their peers once again!

We then went to the dry rooms to dry off before heading back to the dining room for our final meal at Conway, and the end of a wonderful 3 days away. Thank you to all the children for being such brilliant representatives of our school and for taking part in the activties with plenty of enthusiasm and determination.

Look out for our photos to follow.
