21.6.18 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 21st Jun 2018 @ 9:21am

This week in Sandymere we have focussed our attentions on writing information pieces for our shoe box aquariums.  We have written about specific sea creatures using the research that we had completed.  The children showed great skill in using capital letters and full stops independently and also importantly using the skill of  proof reading their work to check it made sense.SHOUT OUT to Archie for excellent proof reading.  Team Sandymere are working hard to put the aquariums together and up on display for you to see.

In maths we have been focussing on reading half past on an analogue clock. We played a fabulous game which was based on the traditional game of Corners and the children were excellent at reading the times.  SHOUT OUTs to Jayden, Gracie and Isla for winning their rounds of the game.  Please do practise o'clock and half past at home too.

in history we continued to explore the life of Mary Seacole and used our independent writing skills to record key facts in sentences.

We have started to look at the World Cup this week and used our geographical skills to place World Cup countries on to a map using an atlas to help us.  We managed to successfully place England, Russia, Argentina, Belgium, Australia and Brazil.  SECRET TASK ALERT - the children would like to challenge their parents to find all the World Cup countries on a world map!  They are allowed to help you. This week we had a wonderful assembly about NED.  It was a wonderful motivational talk about

Never giving up

Encouraging others

Doing you best

The talk was accompained by some amazing yoyo work!!  Letters have gone home explaining all about this and sharing a price list for the various yoyos available to purchase each morning from school on the playground.

Also this week Mrs Pile thoroughly enjoyed taking a music lesson with the children and has asked them to bring in something that makes a noises for next weeks music lesson.  Information is in your child's book bag regarding this.

That's all for this week.

See you on Monday.
