Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 02.02.2024

Date: 4th Feb 2024 @ 12:03pm

It always impresses me when I come to write our weekly class blog just how much we have covered and completed over the past week.

English

We have continued to explore the text 'Can we save the tiger?' by Martin Jenkins. We have this week, written about rhinos, and tried to include a variety of the mastery skills we have been exploring into our writing: modal verbs, parenthesis, creating complex sentences as well as using vocabulary suited to the purpose of writing. We have also explored the type of text we are going to be producing as our final piece to familiarise ourselves with the features and structures of this text.

Maths

We have now completed our unit of work on fractions this week and will now move on to decimal numbers. However, fractions won't be too far away as we start to build our knowledge and understanding of the relationship between fractions and decimals. We have also spent some time this week multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 and looking at the relationship between the two.

Geography

In Geography, we are continuing to explore the UK and how it is made up. We have looked at the many physical features than make up the UK and where these are. We then went on to pick four of the physical features and find something interesting out about them.

KIVA Anti-Bullying Sessions

On Friday afternoon, the children took part in our first whole KS2 workshop exploring bullying- what it is, the impacts and effects that it has on people and how it can differ from an argument and a fall out with friends. I was particulary impressed with how mature the children were when we were discussing the topic.

What can you do at home?

  • Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book and diary in school with them every day and having the correct PE kit in school every Tuesday and Thursday.
  • Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed.
  • Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps.
  • Practise the list of spellings that are sent home.
  • You may want to encourage your child to take a look in the SATS Practise and Revision section of Blakemere's class page. This is for Year 6 children only. If you do complete any of the tasks, please do show me what you have completed and achieved.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
