Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 15.09.2023

Date: 17th Sep 2023 @ 11:39am

We have had a busy week in Blakemere. We are continuing to learn the routines and expectations within Blakemere and I am impressed with how the children have responded to these. There is always a lot to understand and follow at the beginning of a new year but the children have worked hard on this.

In English, we have begun to explore our new text 'Star of Fear, Star of Hope.' The children have made some excellent predictions and inferences and have come up with the idea that the theme of our book is based on war, conflict and danger based on the evidence we have been presented with so far.

In Maths, we have continued to explore the place value of six and seven-digit numbers and how we can read, write and represent these in different ways. Lots of children have shown a great confidence in these.

In Science, we have continued to explore the heart and its functions. To help us learn more about how the heart works, the children acted out how both oxygentated and deoxygenated blood are transported around the body. Each child had a role either as an organ or blood.

PE has focused on dance and cricket. It is imperative that the children have their PE kits in on both Tuesday and Thursday to enable them to take an active role in these sessions.

On Friday, our Year 5 children delivered their school coucil speeches to the rest of the class. Following these speeches, the class had to vote for who they would like to respresent Blakemere as a Year 5 this year on the school council. All the children gave excellent speeches but Franklin was our successful candidate. Well done Franklin!!

We also placed our votes for our class read this week, The children were given three blurbs from three different books from our class reading spine and they had to select which one they would like to read based on the blurb only. We hdo have a tie so we shall have to go back to vote on Monday.
