Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 30.06.2023

Date: 2nd Jul 2023 @ 9:38am

We have had another extremely busy week in Blakemere.

We have started a new book in English, called Manfish. It is all about the life and work of a gentleman called Jacques Cousteau. We have only just begun to explore some of the images and vocabulary from the text, whilst making predictions, but we shall be introduced to him more soon.

In Maths, we have continued to explore 3D shape with a specific focus on the nets to different shapes. We started off by matching nets to the shapes by looking at how the shape was made up. We then moved on to making predictions about which nets would make particular shapes. The children had to try and visualise whether the net would fold into the shape before testing out their predictions.

In Science, we used our torches to help us to explore what happens to our shadows when the light source is place in different positions and different distances away from the object. We found every time that the shadow looked like the object but it may have been a different size.

In geography, we explored the difference between weather and climate and then explored the different climate zones around the world whilst identifying the climate zone that both the UK and Brazil are in.

On Thursday, we had the opportunity to take part in a circus skills workshop. It was a fabulous experience for the children and they all thoroughly enjoyed taking part in lots of different circus activities. The gentleman, who was leading the sessions, also commented on how exceptional Blakemere were.

I am incredibly impressed with the Year 6 children’s commitment and drive towards their rehearsal of their show. It is coming on brilliantly and we are all looking forward to sharing it with you.

Next week, is going to be a strange week in Blakemere as we have the Year 6 children taking part in their transition events at their High Schools. I hope they have a wonderful time whilst they are there, and I look forward to seeing them when they return.

Finally, I haven’t yet posted the photographs that were taken during our celebration for the end of SATS week. The children have been asking about them so here there are.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I shall see you Monday.
