Head Teacher Blog: Friday 18th June 2021

Date: 18th Jun 2021 @ 11:24am

It’s been another beautiful week and it has been so lovely to watch the children enjoying their time outside with their friends – whilst we might not have all got the news that we hoped for this week with the final lifting of lockdown on 21st June, the continued good weather definitely helps to lift our spirits. It’s all fingers crossed again for 19th July now or perhaps earlier! I am really hoping that, come September, we will be able to stop operating as bubbles and come back together as a school. This will have a big impact on our school day. Although as a Senior Leadership Team, we have made plans for what our school day will look like when we return in the Autumn, I am going to delay fully sharing these with you just for now until we are certain of the governments roadmap plans, but we are hoping to return to an 8.45am start for all (with a difference!) and a 3pm finish for all as the times were before the pandemic.

However, plans that I can share with you are the staffing and classes for September and a few things have been going on behind the scenes. Exactly which class your child will be in will be shared on their annual report, which are due to be sent out electronically to you all on Friday 9th July. Please may I remind you all that where there are mixed age classes, the mix continues to be arranged by dates of birth only: all children move to the next year group and receive the appropriate curriculum even if they may be in the same classroom.

The beady-eyed amongst you will have noticed a change in Oakmere class. Mrs Starsiak will be changing roles in September as she moves from teaching in Oakmere to being the Teaching Assistant in Delamere and Mrs Winder will be taking on the job share role with Mrs Riley. This means that we will very sadly be saying goodbye to Mrs Williams who has been a Teaching Assistant at OSJ for the last 15 years – and an amazing one too! Mrs Williams is moving to the Wirral to be closer to family and it is just that bit too far to travel each day.

We will also be saying goodbye to Mrs Pradeep who has been a fantastic support in Oakmere over the last few years as she looks to take up a position on a PGCE course to train to become a computing teacher from September.

Furthermore, we also have to say goodbye to Miss Hartley who takes up a full time teaching position at a school near Chester in September. Miss Hartley joined us in January 2020 to cover Mrs McLaughlin’s maternity leave and we were very lucky to be able to keep her at OSJ when Mrs McLaughlin retuned in October. The time has come for her to further her career in a new school and I am sure that you will all join with me in wishing her, Mrs Williams and Mrs Pradeep lots of love and luck.

We don’t often have much change in staffing in our lovely school and a few seem to have come at once this year! However, we embrace the changes as we continue to do the best that we can for all the children in our school community.

#WakeUpWednesday

Tackling online hate requires a combined effort, not just from individuals and communities, but from nations. It is an issue that transcends boundaries and requires the support of everyone, regardless of who they are, where they live or what they do.

The delayed European Championships (Euro 2020) are a reminder of just how much football can bring people together, bringing joy to millions of people and an opportunity to support children towards developing healthy, positive habits online, fighting back against online hate – whatever language you speak, so National Online Safety have used this week’s #WakeUpWednesday to put together a football themed guide to support us all in tackling online hate.

Informing School of a Positive Result

With the rise in cases in the Winsford and Northwich areas due to the Delta variant, please may I remind you that if any of your children have to take a COVID test and the result comes back positive, we need to know this at school as a matter of urgency, whether it is evenings or weekends, to enable us time to organise things in school and contact the relevant people. During school hours, please call the office on 01606 592608 – do not leave an answer phone message – please continue to ring until you speak to someone. If it is the evenings or weekends, please e mail your child’s name and class to positiveresult@overstjohns.cheshire.sch.uk This is for positive results in our children only. If your child needs to isolate as a direct contact because someone in your household, childcare or support bubble has tested positive, please e mail the normal admin@overstjohns.cheshire.sch.uk address.
