Oakmere Class Blog 12.11.23

Hello Oakmere

Another busy week in Oakmere and the children rose to the challenge as per usual.  Our topic for Remembrance Day was looking at the roles that animals played during conflict.  The children researched the Dickins Medal that the PDSA award animals for their bravery.  Once they had completed their research, they wrote a fact file about their chosen hero.  We observed the two minutes of silence on Friday and talked about why we remembered.

For Parliament week we looked at how laws are made in our country.  We separated into the House of Commons and the House of Lords and debated several laws that the children came up with.  One of the suggestions was banning smoking and vaping and the other was to help people pay their bills by stopping companies charging so much.  I think we may have some budding politicians in our class!

On Monday, please send your children in with odd socks-the odder the better!  This is to celebrate our differences and individuality as part of our Anti Bullying week launch.

This week in Oakmere we will be finishing off our story from the seals point of view in English.  In maths we will be looking at estimation to help us with calculations and learning the six times table.  This is our new times table song.

In History we are going to be looking at the Mayans.  We are going to start looking at where and when they lived.  In Science we are going to be looking at rocks.  We have had several children bring in rocks so far and this has started a slight fascination which is testing my rock knowledge but fortunately google has been able to help.

Have a great week.
