Oakmere Class Blog 26.11.23

Hello Oakmere

I hope you have had a good weekend and are ready for Monday.

In Maths this week we are moving onto multiplication and division.  The children will be exploring the patterns and links between the two types of calculations.  This will be our last week on the six times table as we will be moving onto the seven times table next week.  Please encourage your children to play on TTRS as much as you can.  It really helps with these essential maths skills.

In English we will be editing our letter to Grandad and ensuring it contains all the important elements we have been looking at so far.  The children have worked really hard, and I can’t wait to see the finished writing.  In spellings this week we are going to be looking at the year group specific spellings.  These are the words that the children are expected to be able to spell correctly and they can be a bit tricky.

In Science we continue to look at rocks which I feel we do everyday.  It has become part of our end of day routine where we try and identify the many and varied rocks the children bring me.  I don’t think I ever had a class use metamorphic on such a regular basis. This week we are going to start looking in detail how some of these are formed, their permeability and durability.

In history the children are going to be labelling a map of the most important Mayan cultural sites and researching this culture.  The timeline we created last week slightly blew their mind and the thoughts of a culture creating such amazing buildings without the use of modern power tools caused a stir.  In DT we will be investigating the history and types of cards we want to create and starting the design process.  The children continue to work on dance and netball skills in PE, although hopefully it won’t be as windy this week as last week not only were the balls been blown away so were the children.

Have a great week.
