Sandymere's Class Blog 1.12.23

Date: 1st Dec 2023 @ 2:07pm

We have had a great week and been very busy learning lots of new things. We also welcomed a new member to Team Sandymere this week. Miss Ollier is a student teacher and she will be working with us at different points throughout the rest of the school year.

Highlights from our learning this week.

- In Science we helped to find out how to mend an umbrella with a hole in. The whole class were scientists and carried out an investigation to find out which materials are waterproof and strong enough to mend the umbrella. Can your child tell you what they found out?

- In English, Nibbles has been causing mischief and mayhem and he has nibbled his way into Little Red Riding Hood and Golidlocks and the Three Bears. He has changed the events in the stories and made the characters very upset and some of them are very cross too. We have been writing about this and aiming to include our current mastery keys; capital letters, full stops, using and and a conjunction.

- Everyone was very excited for our DT lesson this week. We made a sliding mechanism based on the Gingerbread Man story. The children created a moving picture with their mechanism.

- We have had two history lessons this week. Thank you for helping your child as part of this and talking to them about the toys that you played with when you were younger. We looked at some toys that are about 100 years old, from the Victorian times!

We can’t wait for next Wednesday as we are off on our Christmas visit. December has been welcomed with lots of talk of advent calendars and elves. Sandymere are all very excited that it is getting closer to Christmas.

Have a wonderful weekend
