Sandymere's Class Blog 19.1.24

Date: 19th Jan 2024 @ 2:42pm

This week we have:

  • completed our final piece of work about Nibbles the Book Monster. We wrote in role as Nibbles and told our diary all about our adventures.
  • started to work with numbers up to 20. It would be really good if the children could practise writing all the numbers from 0 to 20 so that they are always written the correct way round.
  • had our first encounter with watercolours in art. There were whoops of excitement when the children worked out how to make the paint appear on the paper. Can your child tell you what we needed to paint with watercolour?
  • been using the vocabulary to describe the past as part of our study of old toys. The class generated an impressive bank of words that we can use in our history lessons – past, long ago, before, before I was born, yesterday, last week, last year, in the old days.
  • focussed on reading with expression and understanding what we read during our guided reading sessions. We are noticing that some children are finding it tricky to read for meaning. Please practise this at home by asking them questions at the end of each page that they read to you. Thank you for supporting your child with their reading at home.

We have had a lot of illness in Sandymere over the last two weeks, children and adults! Please don’t forget to check the guidance from the NHS around Is my child too ill for school? before deciding whether to send your child in to school or keep them at home.

Have a lovely weekend

Team Sandymere.
