17.10.17 Blakemere Science Day

Lesson: Science

Class: Blakemere Year: 2017 - 2018

On Science Day, Blakemere carried out a lot of different activities.

Our theme was Change and we used an ordinary bottle of coke to discuss all the different words associated with change: solid, liquid, gas and how to ‘change’ between them which led us onto talking about evaporation, condensation and the water cycle. We also discussed how some changes are reversible (like melting chocolate) and some are irreversible (making toast). Finally we talked about how we all go through changes in our lives: from childhood to adulthood and how for some animals, life cycles have major changes in them (tadpole to frog). We used all the vocabulary we collected to make our own word searches.

Our second activity was the Odd One Out Challenge. Scientists have to be able to give reasons for their findings. Each set had three items and had to decide which one was the odd one out. Next we had to give a scientific explanation for our reasons.

Our third activity was an investigation using different types of milk, food colouring and washing up liquid. As in any good experiment we made predictions, collected observations and drew conclusions.
