11.2.16 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 11th Feb 2016 @ 11:51am

This is the last learning blog update this half term and we are now officially half way through the school year!

The children have worked so hard again this week. We kick started the week by completing our Jack and the beanstalk writing and then moved onto creating front covers for our stories.  They look AMAZING! Hopefully these will be on display in time for parents evening. Also in Literacy the children have completed their half termly writing assessment. They will end the week looking at plurals.

In maths we have continued to count in 2, 5 and 10 and then progressed to investigating ways in which we can make number bonds to 20. This week’s homework supports this learning too.

Topic this week has continued with the travels of Christopher Columbus and the children have looked at the ships that he sailed. The children have created fabulous Santa Maria ships using sugar paper – check out the display section to see your child’s work.

Continuing the theme of explorers the children have been looking at the animals found in the Antarctic and have thoroughly enjoyed looking at penguins! In Science they have labelled diagrams of penguins.

This week the whole school has started the Run to Rio challenge and we have been busy every day running/walking around the playground to clock up the miles.

Over the half term keep your eye out for the Mayor’s Wellbeing activities, most of which are FREE – look in your child’s book bag for a table of activities.

All that’s left to say it have a wonderful half term holiday! See you all in a week!
