02.07.2020 Hello Sandymere

Hello Sandymere,

We hope that you are all well.  We can't believe that it is the month of July already and fast approaching the end of term!

This week we have been phoning the families of the children who are currently learning from home and what lovely conversations we have had.   It seems that each family is finding their own little ways of dealing with lockdown in their own bubbles and with both good days and bad.  We would like to say that it's a very similar situation for us and our families  too - some days we feel like we are winning and achieving all sorts and on others it just feels a little topsy turvy.  The most important thing is to look after our families and try our hardest to remain positive during these very strange times.

We have received some lovely emails and photographs from those at home completing home learning tasks such as science experiments, scavenger hunts whilst out on walks, singing the No Outsiders song, sharing bedtime stories, using BBC Bitesize and even some home decorating projects (can you come a decorate my house please?).  Please do continue to let us know what you're doing and we will share the messages with our class bubble at school.

The school bubble have been practising their number skills with numbers to 20 this week.  If you register for Numbots you can practise your numeracy skills too - login details were sent to each family via School Spider a couple of weeks ago.  The leaderboard is looking very busy! I can tell you that Alf Aero-55 is currently first with the highest accuracy score with A.M.Y Earthpod in  2nd and Vanilla Bababot in 3rd.  Well done!

Also in our school bubble we have been sharing the story The Sandcastle which is about a young boy who builds a sandcastle and then makes a wish that it would be a real sandcastle.  I won't tell you what actually hapens but if you fancy reading it and finding out what happens then follow this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ju4zs3-J0fc  Inspired by the story we designed our own sandcastles using the Roll and Draw activity.  If you fancy having a go yourselves then find a dice (there may be one hiding in a board game or download a dice generator on your phone) and join in with the challenge.  The file is attached below for you.   If you do decide to have a go then why not email your sandcastle drawings to us as school.  I know the children in our bubble would love to see them.

We 've tried our hardest to get outside as much as possible this week by dodging the rain showers.  We've enjoyed creating our own games using large balls and hoops and we even tried out different ways of travelling with a ball without touching it with our hands.  So much fun but not as easy as it looks!

If you're feeling creative perhas you could create a sea creature using a paper plate.  This week we created jelly fish and crabs.  There were some fabulous creations that used a range of cutting, sticking and designing skills. See below for inspiration (Files)

Whatever you do, whether it's one of our ideas on this blog, an activity from the Home Learning tab or something that inspires you at home - let us know.  We truly miss each and everyone of you and we love hearing from you.

Stay safe and take care.

Team Sandymere
