12.5.17 Sandymere Learning Update
Date: 12th May 2017 @ 2:27pm
What a wonderful week we have had! Gorgeous weather and lots of super activities.
A massive SHOUT OUT to Hannah for sending in her plurals work. Ten raffle tickets for you! If I have missed any plurals lists then please do encourage your child to pop it on my desk so they too can receive their raffle tickets.
We have continued our plurals work this week and have even looked at how we can add –s or –es to words to make them plural. Also in Literacy we have explored what we could see inside Snooty Towers and began to ask questions in role and write these using question words and question marks. Another new skill we’ve explored is how we can add the prefix un- to change the meaning of a word, for example
Happy – unhappy
Tidy – unhappy
How many can you and your child find? Make a list and pop it on my desk on Monday.
In Maths we investigated how to use positional language to give instructions. We had fun instructing our partners of where to place different coloured cubes.
Our ‘Into the forest’ topic is going well with a look at how the rainforest is sectioned into different layers. There have been lots of new words to contend with such as understory, canopy and emergent! The children have been fantastic at remembering these words and at times helping me out too! Next week we will begin to look at the different animals and plants found in the rainforest and Mrs Jones hopes to start some rainforest artwork.
On Thursday the children worked hard to complete and decorate their houses as part of design and technology. Mrs Jones would like to give a SHOUT OUT to Scarlett for her imaginative decoration! Well done Scarlett.
Another SHOUT OUT goes to all the parents/carers for labelling their children’s cardigans/jumpers. It has been much easier rehoming them this week. We do have one missing cardigan belonging to Scarlett, so if you could check whilst washing over the weekend that would be great.
PE has been on the field this week with Mrs Smith and she has thoroughly enjoyed keeping the children active with extra laps of the field in addition to their PE session with large and small balls. We will be topping up our PE next week with extra sessions preparing for Sport’s Day. Dates and times can be found on the website.
All that’s left for me to say is ‘have a great weekend!’
See you next week
Mrs Williamson
