That's another fun filled week nearly over! This week we've been focussing our attentions on the key question 'What is it like at the seaside?'. We have considered what we would we see if we visited the seaside then extended this to geographical features of the coastline. The children really enjoyed looking at photographs and using Google Earth to identify coastlines, beaches and the seas and oceans. IF you would like to explore Google Earth further it is free to download from the Internet.
On Tuesday we discovered a set of bones in our classroom and spent some time considering where they had come from and what they belonged to. There were suggestions of dinosaurs bones or perhaps they actually belonged to a museum and they needed returning? We spent time handling and exploring the bones and used our scientific vocabulary to describe - smooth, rigid, fragile. We also compared then lengths of the bones and used comparative language shorter, longer, shortest, longest. The children then wrote their ideas as a sequence of sentences.
In maths this week we explored finding the difference by counting on and using numberlines. It's quite a tricky concept and one which we be practising. Perhaps you could ask your child some finding the differnece questions at home such as what is the difference between 7 and 10? (10 - 7 = 3) We have also been problem solving this week and using a scoring system to generate our answers. There was lots of fabulous mental addition taking place!
Mrs Pile had the children using the large apparatus this week in PE and we saw some fabulous cartwheels being demonstrated on the mats too. In addition to PE the children have been stretching their bodies by taking part in Cosmic Yoga. They're all going to be super strong!
We are now turning our thoughts to easter and the church easter service. We have been listening to some easter songs in the classroom. Song words will be coming home soon for your child to practise.
Please see this weeks homework under the homework tab on our class page.
Have a lovely weekend.
