Date: 14th Dec 2017 @ 10:25am

Well this is the penultimate blog of this term and what a term it has been. Some of the highlights:

· Great Fire of London workshop

· Performing ‘rabbit’ fire dances

· Creating drama - Miranda the Explorer

· Christmas fair

· Parents evening – we loved meeting you all!

· Golf lessons

This week we have been learning about 3D shapes in maths. We have focussed on the sphere, cylinder, cube, cone, pyramid and cuboid. The children have been describing them using mathematical language such as straight and curved edges, square and circular faces. A SHOUT OUT to Michael and Jayden for their fabulous shape knowledge. Perhaps you could have your own 3D shape hunt at home?

In Science we are now exploring materials and their properties. The children could identify and label a wide range of materials and sorted them into groups. We are have begun to look at the properties of materials such as rough, smooth, bendy, hard, soft, water proof. Next week we are going to investigate the materials.

Mrs Smith enjoyed a wonderful gymnastics lesson with the children on Wednesday and I spotted some excellent stretches and curls when I popped into the lesson.  Such flexible children!

We have started our phonics assessments this week so we can gauge the level of progress the children are making on a more formal basis. We will be sending home phonics homework over Christmas so that the children can keep practising Phase 3 and 5 phonemes. Please note there will be NO phonics homework this week as we have asked the children to practise their words for the carol concert which is TONIGHT!

Church rehearsals went well yesterday and we are really looking forward to seeing you all at the church this evening. Please make sure your child arrives in full school uniform with an extra layer or two underneath for extra warmth.

See you later!
