16.6.18 Sandymere Learning Update
Date: 16th Jun 2018 @ 10:43am
So this week it has been national Year 1 Phonics Screening Week. We would like to say a MASSIVE well done to every child in Sandymere for their excellent efforts and postivie attitude. The children were so relaxed that we are not even sure if they knew they were actually doing 'the real deal'. The results of the screening will be announced in your child's end of year reports.
This week the children have also been learning about time in maths. Looking at o'clock and learning to read this through a range of games and activities. Perhaps you could practise with your child at home too ? A SHOUT OUT to Jayden for his excellent participation.
Mrs Worstencroft has been looking at the Bible story of Zacchaeus using hot seating techniques and then sequencing the story.
We have also been looking at Mary Seacole this week and using historical sources such as portraits to try and find out information about her. SHOUT OUTs to Summer and Tom for their excellent historical thinking! SECRET TASK - could your child find out TOP FIVE FACTS about Mary Seacole? These can be noted down and left on the desk on Monday morning.
We have explored our creative side this week by creating our own aquarium using the shoe boxes that you sent to school. They look fabulous and are now awaiting the information texts to be added. We will be writing those next week during English lessons.
There is no homework this week as the children have been working so hard in preparation for their screening although it is a good opportunity to catch up on home reading or polish up on the spelling of the Year 1 Common Exception Words.
Have a wonderful weekend and we will see you next week.
Mrs Williamson on behalf of Team Sandymere.
