17.3.17 Sandymere Learning Update
Date: 17th Mar 2017 @ 11:49am
Another week and another host of exciting activities completed.
In maths this week we’ve been exploring money. Recognising coins, their values and adding money up to 20p with some mastering up to 50p. The children have really enjoyed the money topic. They would now benefit from shopping for small items with you. Perhaps you could let them choose a treat and pay for it themselves at the till or help you with your weekly shop by selecting the items off the shelves and telling you the prices? Or even set up a shop at home and encourage your child to roleplay?
The pigeon theme continued in Literacy and we looked at the use of contractions within our writing and explored using conjunction ‘because’ to extend our sentences. Miss Pattison visited on Tuesday to see the children’s writing and she was very impressed with their work. Well done children! On Wednesday we ended the theme by making our own mini books inspired by Mo Willems. Now we have begun to look at a new book, a class favourite - Farmer Duck.
Our topic work has led us to look at the history of transport and explore the chronological order of the different transport types from old to more modern. Wonderful discussions around why each form of transport was old/new were had. We will continue to look at history on Monday.
There has been lots of phonics practise this week too and the children are making progress with reading alien words. Remember to keep practising at home too especially with segmenting and blending.
Segmenting means dividing the word up in to phonemes (sounds) and blending is putting it all back together again.

Please do ask if you’d like any guidance. We are happy to help.
A quick note about homework. All children in the school have been given an art task to complete. This is glued into your child’s homework book – please complete the task on the loose piece of paper provided and hand in separately to the homework book. Please do not stick it in as these will be collected in and handed to the school office. Thank you.
See you all next week.
