18.5.17 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 18th May 2017 @ 3:06pm

Not quite the glorious weather we had last week but a wonderful week within school all the same.

We began the week by completing the reading of the story ‘Goldilocks and just the one bear’ and what a surprise it held! We now know that Little Bear had in fact ventured into Goldilocks’ house and that she is all grown up. We have loved the story and were sad for it to end. The story finishes with Little Bear returning to the woods (much to his relief) and we had great fun creating our own maps of Little Bear’s journey through the trees and back home to his own cottage. There were many joyous sounds to be had as we recreated the walk. Twit twoo! Today the children have been looking at boxing up the story into sections in preparation for next week when we write our own version.

In grammar we have looked at –ed verbs and the past tense. Perhaps your child could search for these in their own reading for the chance of earning extra raffle tickets? We have many SHOUT OUTs from last week’s grammar challenge including Isaac, Lacey, Ruby, Ciena, Sam, Hannah, Scarlett, Lily, Gracie and Neve – all of who have received extra raffle tickets. Well done and thank you to the parents and carers for supporting their child with these tasks.

In maths we have continued to reinforce number bonds to 10 and 20. Homework was sent last week linked to this and we hope that you and your child continue to practise these at home. We are looking for rapid recall now.

In topic we have delved into the world of animals within the rainforest and have looked at images and online clips of all sorts of weird and wonderful creatures. The children have then been reading about these animals and collecting key facts. Great job children!! Did you know that there is such a thing as a pink dolphin? Or that poison dart frog is no bigger than a paper clip? Ask your child about the wonderful facts they have found out.

Each half term a different class presents a whole school assembly relating to their Christian value and ours is on Tuesday. Please could you click on the link and play the song to your child to help them to practise it? The link can be found on the blog list.

Also on the blog list is a quick link to the phonics homework for this week. Paper copies are also in the homework books.

As always thank you so much for all your support.

See you on Monday!
