Wow week 7 already and what a busy week we have had! The highlight of the week was definitely Science Day on Tuesday where we explored the colours of the rainbow though nature. The children had a super time looking around the school grounds looking for items that grow that match the colours of the rainbow. It proved to be tricky to find purple and blue items! We also had a nature table to explore and the children loved using the magnifying glasses to look closely at bark, acorns, conkers and a whole host of items from nature. The children worked hard to group the items into different categories. A SHOUT OUT to Jayden for spotting the key group of things that grow on trees and things that don’t - the feather was a big clue!
Also this week we had a go at retelling the story of Miranda the Explorer through pared talk and role play. The children were very good at sequencing the story into a whole class story map and are beginning to get to grips with retelling. Perhaps you could practise at home with your child? They could retell the story of the Three Little Pigs or maybe a favourite story or even the story in their own reading book?
In maths we have been working on addition using a number line with a particular focus on explaining the process too. Some fabulous mathematicians this week when were challenging ourselves with missing numbers addition sentences. A SHOUT OUT to Grace and Thomas for choosing to complete extra maths challenges!!
The children have been busy practising their harvest song this week too. Listen out at home for little voices singing away. Thank you so much for the wonderful harvest food items you’ve been sending in. There is still time to send them in on Monday.
- phonics this week we have been looking at alien words and real words. We had great fun coming up with alien/monster names and the children have named our cuddly phonics monster ‘Bloo’. For homework your child will be asked to read the real and alien words then illustrate them. Hopefully they’ll have lots of fun creating their own aliens! You could follow this link for some ideas and inspiration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4Z69AMSKck Also you could follow this link for a explanation of how we segment and blend alien and real words. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2-Z4q8z18Q
Have a wonderful weekend!
