2.21.17 Sandymere Learning Update
Date: 2nd Feb 2017 @ 11:12am
Firstly we’d like to offer a warm welcome to a new child to our class. We hope you will be very happy at our school.
We have been very busy this week preparing for the writing exhibition which is NEXT WEEK. We hope you’ve managed to secure a space in your diary for it!
The children have been continuing to write their own version of The Dragon Machine and worked hard to use their skills and creativity to make their stories as exciting as possible. They have also been presenting their poems on paper scorched by a dragon! Also this week, the children have been writing their lists for items they’d need to build their own dragon machine with items ranging from copper piping to old buses!
In maths we have been looking at doubles of numbers to 20 and explored the relationship between addition and subtraction such as
4 + 4 = 8 SO 8 – 4 = 4
5 + 5 = 10 SO 10 – 5 = 5
We also looked at patterns in numbers and the children were fabulous at spotting even number patterns when doubling numbers. Why not try out these games to practise the skills further.

Also this week we have reflected on the story of the Loaves and the Fishes and thought about the importance of sharing just like Jesus. The children have written some lovely pieces explaining what they would like to share and why. Please look out for these in our classroom next week at the writing exhibition.
In topic we’ve thought about where in the world we’d like to travel to, what we’d like to see and we also considered how we would get there. There were all sorts of exciting suggestions including flying to Russia to meet Baboushka and travelling to Egypt in a train carriage to see the mummies! These children have BIG plans!
Thank you so much for the egg boxes! We now have enough to begin creating our dragons!
It’s been a wonderful week and the children have been super stars!
See you on Monday!
