2.3.17 Sandymere Learning Update
Date: 2nd Mar 2017 @ 9:49am
Welcome back!
I'd like to begin with how proud I am of Sandymere class. In my absence on Tuesday I received feedback that the children were 'impeccably behaved and worked incredibly hard'. Well done children!
May I also say thank you to all the parents and carers that supported their children with their phonics homework over half term. The general feedback is that you all enjoyed playing the games and the variety of learning opportunities, so on the back of that this weeks phonics homework is a game of BINGO! All will be revealed when you receive the sheets. Have fun!
In Literacy this week we have begun the story of ‘Don’t let the pigeon stay up late!’ We have looked at contractions and apostrophes for words like
don’t – do not
couldn’t – could not
Ask your child how we squeeze the words and letters pop out! If they’re still not sure about contractions perhaps you could try this link to practise some more?
CHALLENGE TIME
How many contractions can your child find in their reading book? Let me know by writing them down and I’ll give them a raffle ticket for every one they find!
P.E continues to take place on Wednesday mornings and Friday afternoons so can you please make sure that your child has their kit in school. Thank you.
In phonics we have continued to look at segmenting and blending alien words. There are many super apps to practise these skills further. Well done to the parents and carers who’ve already downloaded a few onto their child’s tablets and devices!
In maths the children have been looking at measuring using non-standard measures such as hands, feet and strides. Lots of fun was had measuring the playground, the tables and the water fountain at school!
Another thank you to parents and carers who shared their child’s reading books over the holidays. All books have now been changed and sent home. Keep up the good work!
