2.3.18 Sandymere Learning Update
Date: 2nd Mar 2018 @ 1:34pm
Welcome back everyone.
Well it’s been quite cold to say the least, so can we say a huge thank you for wrapping your children up warm for school!
Well the week started with the disappointment of Chester Zoo closing for the day! Please note that this trip has been rebooked for next month and more information will follow soon.
The disappointment didn’t last long though, once we had explored the Chester Zoo website then embarked on the task of creating our own ‘dream’ zoo. There were some fabulous animals included in these zoos with star attraction of unicorns! We even managed to watch a clip of The Secret Life of the Zoo and watch the marmoset babies being carried by their mother.
We kept to theme of animals in art too where we looked at animals skin patterns and had a go at creating giraffe, cheetah, elephant and crocodile skins to name but a few. The children looked carefully at the range of colours and quickly realised that crocodiles are indeed not simply green.
Some children began the task of creating jointed animals developing their cutting skills and working out the wonders of split pins!
On Wednesday we began to look at penguins and discovered there are a wide range of penguin species – we talked about seven. The children had fun trying to match penguin names, to their images and facts. We then looked at the emperor penguin more closely and were shocked to discover that a fully grown emperor penguin can grow up to 122cm tall – that means they are taller than Izzy! (And not far off Mrs Williamson either!) We used these penguin facts to begin to create fact sheets.
A SHOUT OUT to those children then brightened up our classroom with their secret task of creating an alien! We had some absolutely wonderful contributions from Olivia, Jack, Isla, Mya, Summer and Amelia. Thank you! (Apologies if you’ve brought yours in since Wednesday and I’ve missed you – you’ll get your mention next week) This week's SECRET TASK is to find a book about animals and bring it into school on MONDAY. These will be needed for the afternoon task. (Please make sure your child's name is written inside the book)
Phonics homework this week is working on specific Phase 5 sounds.
I won’t be in on Monday but will return as normal on Tuesday. See you all next week!
