20.1.17 Sandymere Learning Upate

Date: 20th Jan 2017 @ 4:39pm

Well we are well and truly into the swing of things this term and have already made great steps into our new book The Dragon Machine. We have only studied the first page so far and already the children have come up with some excellent creative writing – you’ll see this at the writing exhibition on 9th February. If you’d like to help your child further with their writing perhaps you could play the noun builder game.

Take a noun such as dragon,

then add an adjective,

then add a verb.

You could even challenge them to add an adverb!!!

A dragon

A fierce dragon

A fierce dragon was flying

A fierce dragon was flying quickly.

Have fun with it and perhaps send a couple of examples into school ion Monday and we can add them to our working wall.

In maths we have been working on the trickier task of finding 10 more or 10 less than ANY number to 100. This has proved a challenge for most children this week therefore we have sent a 100 square home for homework for the children to reinforce their skills. Please do work with your child on this particular piece to make sure they are secure. Thank you.

We have continued with lots of dragon art with some clay models, dragon eye patterns and the beginnings of some jointed dragons. We will continue with these next week and hopefully finish them ready for the exhibition.

In handwriting we are focusing on the ascenders l,h,t this week. Keep practising at home too.

Mrs Smith has started looking at the body with Sandymere class and they had great fun labelling the body parts.

REQUEST – can you please send in any GREEN egg boxes which hold 6 eggs? We desperately need them asap for our dragon stories. All will be revealed!

See you all on Monday!
