21.11.19 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 21st Nov 2019 @ 10:34am

Another lovely week and we've had the added excitement of learning the songs for the 'Sing The Christmas Story' event that will be held at St Chad's Church on Monday 2nd December. (Letters were sent home on Monday in book folders)  This is set to be a wonderful occasion for Winsford school's to come together and sing.  The songs are fabulous - I've even found myself singing them in the car! Ask your child to sing you the Angels Singing song - they all love it.  You could also listen to a little preview of each song on www.outoftheark.co.uk/everyone-loves-a-baby.html

In maths this week we have been exploring problem solving using subtraction.  There was also the added challenge of using the PROVE IT! element,  where the children had to explain mathematically why the answers might be true or false, as well as working their way through some calculations.  All in all lots of busy bees!

We are continuing our learning journey with Nibbles the Book Monster who is now nibbling his way through a series of traditional tales and changing the stories! Such mischief and mayhem. The children have worked hard on their descriptive sentences this week and used some wonderful vocabulary to express characters feelings. Great use of capital letters, full stops and 'and/because' to extend sentences.

Don't forget to look at the homework tab for weekly spellings.  We have been practising our common exception words in class all week and looking for the use of these in their writing.  Next week's words are now live.

Also this week we have completed guided reading using the book Whoops!  The childrne worked hard to make predictions based purely on the front cover images and we have completed some great inference too.  Guided reading stamps can be seen in your child's reading diary.

Don't forget donations to our class Christmas hamper are very much welcomed.  The Christmas Fair is on 6th December so will soon be here.  Thank you .

See you all next week.
