21.4.17 Sandymere Learning Update
Date: 21st Apr 2017 @ 9:44am
Welcome back. Sounds like some of you had a fabulous Easter break. The children have been very keen to share news of their travels and activities.
This week we have begun our new topic ‘Into the Forest’. We have started thinking about rainforests and what we think it would be like there. We then travelled on a senses journey whilst watching clips of the rainforests soaking up the sounds and sights. Some great responses!
Continuing the forest theme we have begun to look at the story of Goldilocks and the three bears. Please rummage out your traditional tales books and reread this favourite to your child. They’ve loved the work we’ve done so far including writing a retell of the story and acting out the story in groups. A SHOUT OUT to Sam for his wonderful story telling and Scarlett for her performance as Goldilocks! Next week we begin to look at an alternative version of this story – all will be revealed on Monday!
In maths we have been reinforcing our skills in addition and subtraction to 20 and also writing our answers in WORDS. Such as:
9 + 11 = twenty 13 – 4 = Nine
Great job children. We can certainly tell who practised these spellings over the holidays. J
This week we have begun to complete a practise phonics screening with the children on a 1:1 basis. Let’s keep practising using those robot arms and focus on hearing the sounds to blend them back together.
P.E is now outdoors on a Wednesday with Mrs Smith so please do make sure your child has their full kit in school including pumps or trainers that fit. There has been a little squash and a squeeze of toes into pumps recently. These children are growing fast! Mrs Jones will continue to take P.E on a Friday afternoon too.
Keep your eye out for upcoming events on the school website such as Sport’s Day and a trip to Delamere Forest!
That’s all for this week.
See you Monday!
