24.3.17 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 24th Mar 2017 @ 10:34am

Spring has sprung … and the sun is shining!

We are fast approaching the Easter holidays and the Easter service at church on Friday 31st March. Please support your child in learning the song words – copies are in their book bags. J

This week we have looked at the meaning of the parable of The Lost Sheep in RE and the children have also discussed what they would do if they were lost as part of our PSHE learning. Next week we will be looking at the Easter story – perhaps you could share this with them in advance?

In history we’ve looked at using historical sources to find out about the past. We looked at past images of the sedan chair and made comments about the way it was used as a form of transport, then we compared old and new photographs of planes and explored the differences and similarities. Some great partner work on this task with a SHOUT OUT to Sam and Kai who were fabulous buddy workers! Well done. We will continue our history topic next week when we find out about the Wright Brothers.

In maths we’ve been exploring addition and finding missing numbers and total values. For example

? + 6 = 15

or

? + ? = 15

We have used bead strings and multi links to explore this further and the children have displayed some great mental maths skills too. Another area that’s worth practising at home.

In phonics we have been looking at alternative phonemes and also developed our skills with reading alien words. Please do keep encouraging your child to segment and blend difficult words in their reading as this all extra practise for the phonics screening in June and also of course develops their reading skills. A few more children have been ‘benchmarked’ this week and progressed to the next colour band. Well done children!

A couple of reminders

Please remember to send your child’s reading book and diary to school EVERYDAY so we can check their reading progress. There have been a few missing recently. We always listen to a child read with or without their reading book, however we need the diary so we can record their reading progress and development points.

Water bottle must only have WATER in them. As the weather warms up your child will need to have access to a drink throughout the day and it is only water that is allowed. Thank you for your support in this matter.

Thank You

Thank you so much for those children that completed the art homework for the town centre project. There were some fabulous entries which have now been sent for display.

See you al next week – oh and don’t forget to change your clocks at the weekend!  wink
