24.5.18 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 24th May 2018 @ 9:30am

It's been a jam packed week so far with so much more to come!

We began the week by writing thank you letters to Supertato for saving the veggies from the Evil Pea and also made links with our class Christian value of thankfulness taking the time to consider why being thankful is important and more than just saying the words ‘thank you’. We also decided that in honour of Supertato we would make him some party pizza, but not without ordering the instructions first (which the Evil Pea had managed to mess up!). We looked at sequencing language first, next, after that, finally and used this to help us to order the instructions and used our re-reading skills to make sure the instructions made sense. SHOUT OUTs to Archie and Summer for their independent sequencing skills. Thankfully we managed to sort them out and create some fabulous pizzas. Yum! Hope your child enjoyed eating theirs. The children will be finalising their work about Supertato this week with a WANTED poster, but instead of simply drawing and writing, the children are going to be using their computing skills to create theirs on the LearnPad. I can’t wait to see them!

In maths we have been looking at and investigating quarters. Some fabulous links to finding half first were heard during partner investigations. Well done children! SHOUT OUTs to Amelia and Oliver. We also talked about how halving and quartering links to everyday life – we looked at how to quarter the pizzas to share them out equally.

In science this week we have continued to look at the human body. We began the week by labelling our class members body parts. We had great fun as Tom and Mason lay on the floor and we had to read our labels and then work out where their shoulders, elbows and chin were to name but a few. We then had the challenge of trying to work out where the lungs and heart might be! SHOUT OUT to Jayden who knew both of these! On Tuesday we explored the five senses and then on Wednesday we looked at the human skeleton. We played a super game where we had to roll a dice and collect the bones to build our skeleton. Ask your child about the game. Perhaps they could make their own version at home over the half term? Well done to Isaac, Astyn, Mason and Archie for wining their team game.

Mrs Pile took the children into the hall for PE this week and the children took part in a dance lesson. When I walked through the hall I saw some beautiful movements and a wonderful team dance being rehearsed. Well done children.

Many more children have been Benchmarked for their reading with a few more making the move to the next level. It really shows which children are receiving continued support with their reading at home as the impact of reading both in school and at home is significant to progress. Please may we thank those that read regularly with their child outside of school – you’re doing a fabulous job. Some children took part in guided reading this week and really enjoyed sharing a story about the beach and a mischievous dog that dug into the sand! There inference was brilliant – SHOUT OUT to Brooke for some fabulous answers and ideas relating to the story.
