25.2.16 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 25th Feb 2016 @ 10:28am

Welcome back! The half term holidays seemed to whizz by and here we are back and raring to go!

This week we have started a new unit of work on animal poems in Literacy.  The children have been learning and reciting Pussy cat, Pussy cat and other well-known poems.  They were very confident and came up with some fabulous actions too.

In maths we have been looking at measuring and using a standard 30cm ruler to measure items around the classroom.  Perhaps you have a ruler or tape measure at home that your child can use and practise measuring in cm?

For topic we ‘travelled’ to Antarctica and began to consider what we would see if we could travel there.  The children made some excellent predictions and then enjoyed watching clip on the Internet of the cold, cold conditions. Did you know that the population of Antarctica is zero?

Mrs Smith has been exploring animals from the Antarctic in Science and the children have created some wonderful zig zag information books.

In computing we have been practising setting up the Learnpads independently and navigating our way around known programmes.  The children are growing in confidence and are really enjoying reinforcing their learning in geography by exploring the continents interactively.

We have also been creating bottle penguins linking to our Antarctic theme and they look absolutely adorable!  Please do remember to send your child to school with an empty, clean 50ml bottle so they can all make one.  You’ll be able to see the finished product at parents evening next week.

DON’T FORGET TO BOOK YOUR PARENTS EVENING APPOINTMENT ONLINE ASAP.

The appointment times are now live!

Take care!
