Hello! What a busy week we have had. This week we have explored the autumn season and really enjoyed using magnifying glasses to look more closely at leaves, conkers and conker shells and then tried to group the leaves by the type of tree they came from. We also learnt the difference between deciduous and evergreen trees (ask your child how they 'act' it out to help them to remember the differences) and also produced some fabulous trees using blow painting techniques. We then labelled the different parts of the tree using our neatest handwriting.
This week's books have been Leaf Man, The World of Trees and my children's choice The owl who was afraid of the dark. Most children have exchanged their library books this week too.
In maths we have been working on postitional language 1st, 2nd, third etc. We had so much fun completing a logic problem in our groups to try and work out which position the characters should stand in the bus queue. There were lots of fabulous explanations and reasoning from the children.
In English we have delved a little deeper into Lost and Found and started to think about how the boy wants to take the penguin to the South Pole. We thought carefully about what we would need to take with us and packed a suitcase with suitable clothing. We also wrote lists using noun phrases to make sure were very specific about each item. I especially loved the idea of a fleecy jumper and warm, snuggly boots.
This week we have worked hard on recognising captial letters. This weeks homework will be linking to matching capital letters to their lower case buddies. Look out on the homework tab this weekend. A paper copy of the homework will be available too.
We have started to practise our harvest festival song and each child received their song words to bring home. I must say they are doing SO well remembering all the lyrics - even better than me!
That's all for now.
See you all bright and early on Monday - hopefully without rain!
