27.10.17 Sandymere Learning Update
Date: 3rd Nov 2017 @ 8:56am
What a wonderful first half term we have had. We are very proud of each and every one of the children and it was so lovely to meet all the parents and carers at parents evening on Wednesday and Thursday. We handed out a few information sheets which hope you have found helpful.
We sent:
A guide to end of Year 1 expectations - guidance in maths, writing and reading
Handwriting support sheet – formation of the letters we have learnt so far
Tricky words list – look out for these in reading and when your child is writing at home
A letter with a reminder about our One Day Creative workshop – The Great Fire of London brought to the classroom through drama and creative activities.
Please keep these information sheets handy and refer to them throughout the year. If you need extra copies just let us know and we will pop them in your child’s book bag.
The children across the school have worked so hard on their performances for Harvest Festival this year and I’ve got to say we are very proud of Sandymere for tackling a song and using sign language too. Sadly I couldn’t see the final performance in the church but I hear they were fabulous and did themselves proud. Well done Sandymere!
Thank you so much for all your kind and generous donations for the local food bank. Take a look at Mrs Ferguson’s blog about Harvest food donations – you’ll be amazed when you see the wonderful donations.
We have now completed Miranda the Explorer and we are happy to say that in our own version of the story Miranda landed her hot air balloon safely back in Winsford. The children have been working so hard on writing their own stories and made great use of the all the new skills they’ve learnt. Keep working on those capital letters, finger spaces and full stops at home and don’t forget to send us a postcard if you go away over half term. We’d love to hear from you and read your wonderful writing!
In maths we have been working hard on bringing all our basic skills together to use reasoning in maths. We have had some impressive reasoning occurring with SHOUT OUTS to Tom and Archie who were able to give clear and detailed explanations! Well done.
POLITE REMINDERS
It has been lovely to see so many of your children enthused and excited about bringing in toys and items from home to share, however can we politely ask that your child only brings in certificates, medals, achievements from now on? They can share these in collective worship on a Friday. The timetable is jam packed and we don’t wish to disappoint any children if they don’t get the opportunity to share something they’ve brought in. We will send a note, blog, message out in advance if we wish to have a ‘show and tell’ session. Thank you for your support.
Your child is welcome to use the water fountain outside our classroom door rather than bring a water bottle to school. It provides chilled and room temperature water and your child can access it throughout the day.
Next half term we will begin to look at The Great Fire of London. Kick started with a wonderful creative workshop on Wednesday. The staff can’t wait for this as it promises to be very exciting!
So all that’s left to say is – enjoy your half term and we will see you bright and early on Tuesday 7th November.
Happy holidays!
Mrs Williamson
