27.4.17 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 27th Apr 2017 @ 9:16am

In Sandymere this week we have made a pledge to get active in the classroom, and through our learning, so we’ve been having mini brain breaks and embracing GoNoodle! Follow the link at the end of this blog and you too can GoNoodle. We have also taken the learning outside the classroom by using the UK map on the playground and the 100 square to support our maths.

In maths this week’s focus is grouping. We have looked at all possibilities to divide even numbers up to 20 into groups using multi-link. For example:

12 can be grouped into -

2 groups of 6

6 groups of 2

3 groups of 4

4 groups of 3

1 group of 12

12 groups of 1

This is something your child could practise at home using Lego or even 1p coins. A SHOUT OUT to Joseph for really getting to grips with investigating groupings. Great job!

In Literacy we have continued to look at Goldilocks but through a new book called ‘Goldilocks and just the one bear’. The children have been looking at characters feelings and exploring noun phrases and words using the suffix –ing. We then used these words to make a poem about noises in the city. Could your child make a list of all the –ing words they can find to earn extra raffle tickets? Simply write them down and pass to me on Monday.

In Geography we continued our sense journey through the rainforest then began to look at where the rainforests are in the world in relation to the UK.

Mrs Smith enjoyed taking the children outside again for PE and using the small and large balls for throwing and catching. A SHOUT OUT to Neve for reminding her mum that her pumps were too small. New pumps have appeared! Well done Mum!

In phonics we have continued to look at alternative phonemes. Such as grapheme ‘y’ can make three sounds y/i/e. We have also looked at segmenting and blending real and alien words using robot arms and stretching sounds. This week’s homework asks the children to read and spot the alien words in a list. Enjoy!

Mrs Jones is on a mission to complete the 3D houses this week and hopefully you’ll see your child’s arrive home soon. They look fabulous so far!

See you next week! DON'T FORGET THE CLASS PHOTO ON TUESDAY
