28.02.2020 Sandymere's Learning Update
Date: 28th Feb 2020 @ 9:46am
Welcome back! It was so lovely to see so many parents and carers at parent's evenings this week and absolute pleasure to be able to share your child's books which we feel really reflects all their hardwork and progress. May we take this opportunity to say once again, thank you for your invaluable support. Many parents and carers asked how they could support their child further at home and our key messages are:
- to practise basic number facts to 10 and then 20. We would like all children to be speedily recalling addition and subtraction facts mentally.
- to practise reading and spelling the Year 1 common exception words
- to encourage your child to read as often as possible and to look at and talk about books in a passionate way
Homework is always linked to these skills and can be found under the homework tab on our Sandymere class page.
This week we have spent time enjoying our topic work and looking at materials and their properties in science. We are so pleased with the children's development in vocabulary and how they continue to use it when talking about materials in their day to day lives. One child came to us this week and shared 'My book is opaque - look you can't see though it!'. Simply fabulous!
We have dipped our toes in the water of our new topic this week (pardon the pun!) which is called Across the Water. We have been thinking about what we might find if we visited the seaside. There were lots of interesting suggestions including fish, crabs, sun umbrellas and jet skis! Perhaps you could talk to your child over the weekend about the seaside and maybe even pull out some photographs if you have visited the seaside as a family. We would suggest a little family visit this weekend but I hear the weather is going to be somewhat wet and windy.
Mrs Pile anjoyed a fabulous PE session with the children this week and went as far as to say how much she loves spending time with our class. Well done children - you are obviously making a postive impression!
Mrs Worstencroft has been busy practising ascending letters l, t, b, h in handwriting with the children this week. We spoke to many parents about presentation and handwriting at parent's eve. If you would like to know more about our handwriting the you look at the website
www.teachhandwriting.co.uk/continuous-cursive-beginners-choice-3.html
but please note we don't use hooks and loops. Please speak to us if you would like more information.
The children are busy preparing for their class collective worship next week where we will be looking at our class christian value thankfulness. Please encourage them to practise singing The Butterfly Song. Lyrics and links were sent home before half term.
That's all for now.
