28.6.18 Sandymere Learning Update
Date: 28th Jun 2018 @ 1:43pm
What a wonderful week it’s been and its definitely feeling a lot like summer! Thank you so much to all the parents who have sent their child to school with a hat, plenty of water and covered in sun cream. You are all so well prepared! Next weeks the hot weather is set to continue so same again please – especially on Monday as it is our annual Sport’s Day. We are looking forward to seeing you all there.
Today Team Sandymere had the privilege of taking some Sandymere and Hatchmere children to a sporting event at WVR College in Hartford. The children were impeccably behaved and had a wonderful time taking part in a whole host of activities including using balance bikes. Well done children. Look out for photos from the event coming soon.
This week in English we continued to work on our information booklets about koalas, polar bears and rabbits. We have moved on to the animals babies and collected facts to write as sentences about our animals. Lots of great sentence structuring has been seen this week including the use of ‘and’ to join sentences! The children are also looking at singular and plural words and then ending the week creating Top Trumps cards for animals this week.
Our focus in maths is money. We began the week by looking at coin values and then ordering them from lowest to highest. Many children are still a little unsure of their coins so any extra practise at home would be fabulous. We then moved on to adding coins together. Perhaps you could ask your child to add the coins in their piggy bank or maybe you have a loose change pot at home they could sift through?
In phonics we have turned our attention to the Year 1 Common Exception words. The words school, house, friends, once, were, where are proving tricky. Perhaps you could pop these on post it notes around the house for your child to practise spelling daily?
The highlight of our week has been using the Beebots. These are programmable devices that we give instructions too using algorithms. The children have had so much fun with these and loved the Beebot races. SHOUT OUTs to Jayden and Jack for their excellent skills in programming.
We have checked all the PE kits in preparation for sport’s day but many children have informed us that their pumps are too small. Please could you make sure that your child has a pair of pumps or trainers that fit comfortably for sport’s day on Monday?
Another busy week – see you all on Monday!
