30.01.2020 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 30th Jan 2020 @ 8:00pm

We've all had such a lovely week with lots achieved including continuing our work on adding numbers to 20 in maths. There are additional links to games to practise addition to 10 and 20 uploaded in an earlier blog. Please help your child to load the games and practise their mental addition.

Thank you for all the lovely books that have been sent into school worth a winter theme. My favourite so far has to be Snowball by Sue Henderson. I may even go and purchase a copy for myself. Don't worry if we haven't shared your child's book yet - we will aim to get through them next week too. Fostering a love of books is so important at a young age and it's been delightful to see so many children excited to have their book choice shared with the class. Perhaps some children may even like to read the books out loud to the class?

Library books have been exchanged although several children didn't bring theirs to school so didn't swap them this week. Please could you pop their reading book in their bag each Wednesday for exchanging? Thank you. We started new books in guided reading this week including BMX Billy, Rice Cakes and a play! We love guided reading sessions  as we can really look closely at key features of texts and also practise essential reading decoding and fluency skills.

In science we have been grouping materials in different ways including opaque and transparent and even conducted an investigation into which materials are waterproof. There were lots of great predictions made and a few surprises along the way.

Also this week we have been learning The Butterfly Song. The lyrics were sent home on Tuesday for your child to practise. These can also be found on the website with a link to the song to sing along to.

Mrs Pile enjoyed a fabulous PE session this week and was very impressed with how sensibly and quietly the children set out the apparatus. All children were awarded raffle tickets for the independence. Well done children!

I had the pleasure of being in class this afternoon too where we completed some stunning sunset collages. We can't wait to finish them next week!

Don't forget to keep checking the homework tab for weekly spellings and helpful hints and tips links.

See you all next week.
