Well that half term whizzed by!
Over the half term we have seen some super events including Fairtrade Fortnight, Red Nose days
parents evenings and Easter celebrations to name but a few.
It was wonderful to see so many parents over the past couple of evenings. We hope that you enjoyed seeing your child’s progress as you thumbed through the books.
This week in R.E we looked at Palm Sunday and the children enjoyed re-enacting the event. They offered some insightful thoughts into the feelings of Jesus and his followers. They also enjoyed creating their own palm leaves.
In History there was more drama as the children considered the moment the Wright Brothers had their first successful flight. The children took on the role of Orville or Wilbur and explained how they were proud or nervous or excited about the event. SHOUT OUT to Sam for finding out the names of the Wright Brothers with your parents at home. Well done Sam – your raffle tickets have been added to the box.
We then wrote diary entries in the first person explaining how we felt after the big flying success using personal pronoun I, conjunction because and using contracted words where possible. Super efforts children!
Rehearsals for the Easter service are going well and the children are all ready to perform to you tomorrow morning at the church. Don’t forget to bring your decorated egg/bonnet to school too in the morning.
The children completed their last apparatus based P.E session this week and have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity of climbing and balancing. Mrs Smith is particularly proud of how all the children are now able to get out and put away the equipment too. Well done!
There are many boxes arriving on the classroom in anticipation of our latest design and technology project. We can’t wait to see the finished products.
In maths we have been exploring missing numbers in addition and subtraction sentences. The children have been fabulous at doing this and perhaps you may wish to look at this at home too. Questions such as
9 + ? = 12
? – 11 = 5
HOMEWORK - Look out for the phonics pack in a blue folder. There are several activities to practise over the Easter holidays in preparation for our screening. We have also included phoneme charts and common exception word charts for you to keep for supporting your child at home too.
All that’s left to say is have a very enjoyable Easter break and we will see you all in a few weeks!
