31.1.19 Sandymere Learning Update
Date: 31st Jan 2019 @ 10:37am
Well it has certainly felt colder this week but that hasn’t stopped the children from bringing lots of enthusiasm to the classroom! This week we have continued to write our dragon machine stories and it has to be said that the children have been impressive with their writing stamina. They have used lots of wonderful vocabulary and exciting and imaginative ideas. We can’t wait for you to read them at parents evening. We will publishing the stories and making them accessible for all children through ‘grab bags’ on our display.
In maths this week we have focussed on number bonds to 20 using practical resources such as Numicon and also by playing the game Hit the Button which accessible via the Internet. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
The children in Sandymere are speeding up their mental recall of number bonds which is great news. We are still practising fact families and exploring the relationships between addition and subtraction facts. This has proved more challenging and the children will be continuing this into next week.
We have spent lots of time practising for our whole class collective worship which is linked to our class Christian value of thankfulness. The children have really shown their great understanding about being thankful and how it is more than just saying the words thank you. Well done children! We hope the whole school enjoyed their collective worship and took away with them the bible message of ‘In all things give thanks’ 1 Thessalonians 5:18.
Also this week we have practised our handwriting and using the cursive letter formation. We explored how every letters starts on the line and tried really hard to work our way through the alphabet to explore how this works. A little bit of dough disco and hand warm ups always helps things along the way. We are working hard to improve children’s pencil grips and dexterity at school and if you want to join in the fun perhaps you could try some dough disco hand exercises at home too? Grab some playdough, click on the links and away you go!

Now that the weather has turned colder and more accessories are being brought into school, can we ask that all hats, gloves, scarves are clearly named to avoid them getting mixed up. Thank you.
That’s all for this week. See you all on Monday.
