5.10.17 Sandymere Learning Update
Date: 5th Oct 2017 @ 9:40am
- This week we have been developing our mapping skills by travelling on a magical journey with Miranda from the class text Miranda the Explorer. We have tracked her journey using world maps and have visited Russia, the Himalayas and India. Today the children will be off to USA! Whilst in India the children enjoyed entering our own class balloon basket and calling for help. We then wrote our help messages to throw over the side of the basket. We met a new character in India called Hari who showed great friendship and compassion (two of our school Christian values) so we felt it was important to say thank you to him by writing him a letter. Thankfulness is our class Christian value and we spent some time talking about when, where and why we are thankful.
Speaking of thanks may we say a huge thank you to the families that have sent items in for the harvest festival? Our class are collecting packets of dried pasta meals, noodles and cup a soups. Keep sending them in and we can take them to the church on Harvest Festival day.

Harvest Festival
27th October 2017 9.15am @ St John’s Church.
The theme of hot air balloons continued into art this week where the children have created their own collaged version. We hope to put these up in the classroom next week.
In maths this week we have been exploring one more and less of a given number to 20. Some great efforts and the children are becoming more familiar with their numbers mentally and orally. Please do keep practising spelling the number words as this is a key Year 1 objective. Mrs Worstencroft has been creating colourful sweets with the children displaying the numbers in words and numerals. Check these out in the classroom soon.
We enjoyed a first visit of the year to the church for our whole school assembly with George yesterday. The children tried really hard to sit well and there were some lovely singing voices as the children joined in with George’s songs. Keep it up children!
This week we began to talk about places within Winsford. The children were asked to name places that I could visit if I came for a day out. It turns out I could visit Old Trafford and Chester Zoo whilst in Winsford! Whilst you are out and about with your child perhaps you could point out some of the key places to them such as the Lifestyle Centre, Knight’s Grange, and The Flashes. In the coming weeks we shall walking up and down Delamere Street looking at the features of our local area – perhaps on the walk to school you could chat to your child about some of the places here too. Have a lovely weekend and I will see you bright and fresh on Monday.
