5.12.19 Sandymere Learning Update
Date: 5th Dec 2019 @ 1:45pm
What a wonderful start we had to the week with Sing the Christmas Story at St Chad’s church. Sandymere and Delamere classes represented our school by singing beautifully and displaying impeccable behaviour and good manners. We had a lovely time singing alongside a brass band and learning some new actions to the songs. The reverend encouraged the children to think about the birth and Jesus this Christmas time, along with messages of peace and goodwill. You will be treated to two of the songs we learned at our very own church service in a couple of weeks. I’m sure oyur children have been singing them around the house already.
We are nearing the end of our literary journey with Nibbles the Book Monster now. Nibbles has in fact left the school building and gone on holiday to the south coast where we hear he has made new friends and is having a wonderful time. We tried to imagine what it must be like to live on the south coast and wrote our own descriptions through the eyes of Nibbles – writing using personal pronoun I. we had some gorgeous offerings such as ‘beautiful blue skies’ and the ‘castle on the hill in distance’. Next week we are going to be writing a diary entry pretending to be Nibbles and mastering our skills in writing in the first person.
In maths we have been exploring balancing calculations where we had to answer a question with a question! This was a very new concept and we had lots of fun exploring the possibilities. Perhaps you may wish to try some at home too? Such as
5 + 5 = 9 + 1
8 + 2 = 7 + 3
Once they got the hang of it, some children even challenged themselves to use bigger numbers!
As this week is Enterprise week we spent some time setting up our class business and coming up with a name for our Christmas Fair stall. In the end we agreed on Sweet Treats and we will be selling selection of Christmas inspired sweets and chocolates. We had so much fun creating mini reindeer sacks ready for the treats! We are also going to be running an Adopt a Bear event where people can buy a raffle ticket, add their name and number to it then pop it into a prize box. At the end of the fair the winning ticket will be drawn from the box. Good luck!
Remember to keep practising the weekly spellings which can be found under the homework tab on our class page. We check the progress of these spellings three times a week at school with a mini assessment every Friday.
Reading reminder – please make sure that your child is reading BOTH books that are sent home each week and make a note in their reading dairies, alongside any additional reading/sharing of books they complete of their library books. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your generous contributions to our class Christmas Hamper. It looks amazing and I certainly will be purchasing a raffle ticket or two in a bid to win it!
See you all on Friday at the Christmas fair.
