5.7.18 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 5th Jul 2018 @ 9:59am

The week started with our annual KS1 sports day and what a wonderful time we had.  All the children were impeccably behaved, took part in all the races and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  We certainly have some speedy sports people in Sandymere class!  Well done children.  A huge thank you to all the parents, carers and extended family for coming to support the event - it was lovely to see you all.

This week we have finished looking at Mary Seacole and the amazing work she did and moved on to Florence Nightingale.  We answered the question Why was Florence Nightingale so important? and used power ppints, information texts and video clips to find out more information.  We watched the Magic Grandad clip where we are taken back in time to look at the poor conditions in hospitals.  The children have really enjoyed looking at significant individuals from the past and worked hard to use historical sources to collect information.

We then went on to draw portraits of Florence Nightingale in our art lesson and I have to say some of them are simply stunning! Mrs McLaughlin was very impressed when she popped into our classroom and spotted the work displayed at the front. SHOUT OUTs to Izzy, Ava and Isla for their impressive portraits - great attention to details girls!

Also this week we have visited the church for our assembly with George and were treated to a class assembly by Hatchmere class all about Friendship.

In computing we had the Beebots out again and tried out more challenging algorithms and even went on to debug our algorithms.  These are definitely a great source of entertainment and we are loving the opportunity to develop our skills in computing in a range of ways.

In maths this week the children are looking at postion and direction.  Perhaps you could help your child with their left/right confusions.

Don't forget to look out for your child's end of year report in their book bag on Friday.

That's all for this week.
