5.9.19 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 5th Sep 2019 @ 1:50pm

Hello and welcome to the first Sandymere Learning Update of the school year.

We are so impressed and proud of how quickly your children have settled into life in Year 1.  They have had lots of fun exploring the classroom and are very excited to be part of the main building - one child said 'it felt like an adventure,'

The children have already started to personalise the classroom and made the space their own by contributing to our No Outsiders display.  We began by sharing the story Only One You and talked about the importance of staying true to yourself and being proud of who you are.  We then made some fish inspired by the story and these are now proudly displayed.

We have spent time refreshing our memories of the Golden Rules and whole school behaviour system.  The children in Sandymere have a great understanding of this - well done children.

Mrs Pile was very impressed with their independence when getting changed for PE and the children really enjoyed their first PE lessons in Year 1.  PE takes place every Wednesday and Thursday.

Also this week we started to look at numbers within 10 in our maths lessons.  We had so much fun counting out objects and representing numbers.  The highlight was creating our own bead strings for given numbers.  These will now be used in our maths area.

Every child has been provided with a library book to share at home this week - these will be changed weekly.  Your child's colour book banded book will be sent home FRIDAY alongside their reading record.  Look out for the brightly coloured folders in your child's book bags.

Mrs Worstencroft is having a fabulous day with the children today and is really enjoying meeting your child.

That's all for now.

See you all on Monday.
