7.3.19 Sandymere Learning Uodate
Date: 7th Mar 2019 @ 10:02am
This week has been another busy week! We have made great in-roads into our science topic work and have been looking at grouping animals by what they eat. The children in Sandymere have learnt new words carnivore, herbivore and omnivore and sorted animals into the correct groups. They then created shopping lists of what they should buy to feed the animals in each group. We used some great interactive games to practise our knowledge and understanding such as www.esolhelp.com/carnivore-herbivore-omnivore.html
In maths this week we have been looking at subtraction using tens frames and progressed to using a number line. The children have been working with numbers to 20 and subtracting one digit numbers at the start of the week progressing to subtracting crossing the 10s at the end of the week. Well done children!
We have continued to look at the book Rosie Revere, Engineer in English and explored how Rosie might be feeling. We are very impressed that the children are recalling new vocabulary such as ‘perplexed’ to communicate feelings. We have looked at noun phrases and considered how we can use a range of word groups to build interesting sentences.
Today is World Book Day and Sandymere class are revisiting the books they have studied throughout Year 1 so far including Toys in Space, Toys around the World, The Dragon Machine, Harvey Slumfenburger’s Christmas Presents, Dragon Poems, Dear Greenpeace and Dragon Post. I wonder which was one was the favourite?
Mrs Winder has continued to use the book ‘The Rainbow Fish’ as inspiration for dance in PE this week and I have to say I was very impressed by some of the children’s very expressive dance moves. Well done Sandymere – very creative!
Polite reminder - Please can all children have their PE kit in school at all times? There have been a few children without kits recently. Thank you.
That’s all for this week!
See you all on Monday on hopefully a less rainy day!
