7.9.17 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 7th Sep 2017 @ 9:39am

So here it is, our very first learning update!

Firstly may I begin with a warm welcome to our Sandymere family. We have had a lovely couple of days so far this week and the children have shown great confidence moving into the main school building and adapting to their new classroom.

We started the week by getting to know one another and explore our similarities and differences. It turns out there are lots of us with blue eyes and many with Velcro shoes! We also had fun sharing our news from over the summer holidays – it sounds like many children went to some exciting places ranging from camping in Wales to the hot beaches of Spain to visits to Chester Zoo and seeing baby elephants. May I take this opportunity to say thank you to those who have emailed their EXTREME READING photos into school. They are proudly displayed in the school library. Come and take a look!

Each child has created their own chair label and displayed some creative flair in their colouring skills. Currently the children are seated on a mixture of tables across the classroom but as we move on to more formal tasks they will receive English and Maths places.

We have been learning to work in groups on challenge tasks this week too. Challenges involved building towers of given numbers, finding two books that have the same theme, creating their own house using Lego, ordering and writing numbers to 10 (ordering them forwards and backwards). These are all challenges you could do at home with your child too. J

Some children have had the opportunity to create a watercolour painting of themselves and I must say they’re impressive! I can’t wait to work with the rest of the class on these. Hopefully these will be on display next week.

On Wednesday we talked about the Rule of Law. Why we have rules? Why we should follow them? Who is enforces the rules? Then we came up with our own class rules. A copy of these will be sent home next week in your child’s book bag.

The children had their first PE lesson of the week on Wednesday with Mrs Smith and she was very impressed that all the children had their kit in school. Well done families!

This week we have sent home the class newsletter and hopefully everything you need to know is on there. If we’ve missed anything off the letter, and you wish to speak to us, then the best time is after school.

***Polite reminder***

Can all snack money please be sent to school in a named wallet, purse or envelope? Thank you.

Phew! I think that’s it for now. Mrs Worstencroft is busy working hard with the children Thursday and Friday and I’m really looking forward to seeing the gorgeous work they complete.

See you all on Monday!
