8.12.18 Sandymere Learning Update

Date: 8th Dec 2018 @ 6:30pm

What a busy week we have had! It's definitely starting to feel a lot like Christmas! We began the week by talking about advent and then creating our own kindness advent calendar. For each new day we will open an envelope containing an act of kindness. These have been written by the children. So far we have had spread a smile, hug a friend in need and play nicely together. Such lovely acts of kindness.

In English this week we read the book Harvey Slumfenburger’s Christmas Present - a story all about a young boy who doesn’t receive any gifts except ONE from Father Christmas. But he accidentally doesn’t deliver the present!! We had lots of wonderful book talk about what Father Christmas could do, how the characters might feel and how kindness is definitely the way forward. The children wrote some lovely sentences to describe what they thought the present should be.

In Maths we looked at subtraction using a number line and worked on exploring the number sentences and filling in the missing numbers. This is still an area that would benefit from additional practise.

Also this week we looked at the art work of Jackson Pollock. The children were surprised by his ‘messy’ style and learnt the world abstract. We hope to try it out for ourselves next week! We could get messy!

We hope you all enjoyed the Christmas disco and fair. Thank you so much for your generous donations. Our class Christmas hamper was certainly looking fantastic by the end of the week.

Hope you’re all having a rested weekend.

See you on Monday
