Date: 9th Nov 2017 @ 10:17am

Welcome back. We hope that you all had a wonderful half term and ready and raring to go for what is quite possibly the busiest half term on the school calendar. With Christmas fast approaching we have a jam packed timetable full of exciting activities planned. Starting with the Great Fire of London Creative workshop on Wednesday.

  1. a wonderful time we had. The children were absolutely fantastic and embraced all the drama and activities throughout the workshop including freeze framing, building London landmarks using their bodies, stepping into the role of King Charles II, the baker and the Londoners ferrying water from the River Thames to put out the fire and creating dramatic fiery music and sounds to accompany the spreading fire. The workshop ended with the children re-enacting the events through a play/retell and it has to be said they are all amazing. Well done children! We are now ready to embark on our history topic The Great Fire of London and produce some fantastic fact sheets, chronological timelines, diaries and even some creative art. Photos to follow.

In English we are keeping with the fire theme and created some super fire poems on Tuesday. The children are going to write their first recount today/tomorrow and retell the events of the workshop using language such as first, next after that, finally. Perhaps you could encourage your child to tell you about the workshop using these words to sequence the events?

In maths the children have been using their reasoning skills in addition and had to decide the value of the circle and the triangle to create the total of 4. Quite a thoughtful process was needed however the children raised to the challenge and managed to solve the problem and give some fabulous reasons! Mrs Worstencroft is continuing reasoning towards the end of the week too. There will be lots of busy maths brains!

In art we have started to create some gorgeous Great Fire of London collages using a whole host of fiery colours. They will soon be displayed on the classroom wall.

The children have talked about Remembrance Sunday and the significance of this day. They have watched the clip https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04p4zsl/poppies It would be lovely if you could watch this clip with your child too and have a chat about this very special day. We will be looking at Remembrance Sunday on Monday too and completing some small activities.

This week the children will be receiving a piece of RE homework in place of their usual homework task. We are also asking that you and your child practise spelling the days of the week. Please follow this link for games and activities to support this.

Please note some of the games need Adobe Flash Player to work.

Have a fabulous weekend and we will see you next week!
