Blakemere Weekly Blog - 28.02.2025

Date: 2nd Mar 2025 @ 9:07am

It has been lovely to see the children return to school following the half term and settle back in well to their learning.

English
We have continued to explore our new text in English – The Selfish Giant. We have selected words from the book and found synonyms for them. We then explored an image of the Giant’s Garden and started to create noun phrases for it. We explored the differing ways we can create a noun phrase and the grammatical elements that they include. We will go on to use these descriptions within a setting description next week.

Maths
We have started to explore percentages with Maths. We have explored the relationship between hundredths fractions and percentages and how we can find the percentage when the fraction denominator is not 100 by using our knowledge of times tables.

Science
This week we have started our new unit based on light. We began by exploring lots of scientific vocabulary linked to light and the children were keen to share their initial thoughts and understanding.

PSHCE
In PSHCE, we have started a new unit all about feelings and emotions focusing on worry. We explored what worry is and how it can be both a positive and negative feeling and emotion.

Watch this Space!

Before half term in Art, the children were working with Mrs Snowdon to produce some collage and printing art work around the theme of activism. The art work the children produced was outstanding and I will be uploading it as a display item on our class page over the next week so keep your eyes peeled.

Well done
A huge well done this week to Rosabeller for winning the raffle ticket prize and to Eva E, Mia, Kobe, Alex and Phoebe for having their work selected for Excellent Examples. They will bring this work home with them next Friday to share with you. Well done to Finley for achieving his bronze reading badge this week.

Secret Question
Share our class blog with your child and send them in with the answer to this secret question to earn themselves some raffle tickets:
What does percent mean?

What can you do at home?
•    Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book in school with them every day.
•    PE is on a Monday and Thursday so please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in on those days. Appropriate footwear is also encouraged. We will continue to be outside for PE on Monday’s along as it is not raining so it is incredibly important that the children have jogging bottoms to wear.
•    Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed. Please record this reading each day on the online reading log. A new link is sent to you from Learning with Parents each week. I absolutely love reading the comments, seeing the photographs and hearing the audio clips of the children reading.
•    Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps.
•    Practise the list of spellings that are sent home. Please let me know of you need another copy of these.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and if you have any questions then please do ask.
