What a busy week we have had in Blakemere this week. It has been filled with lots of great activities.
Tuesday saw us walking to Marina at the bottom of Winsford to carry out our river fieldwork stufy. Whilst at the river, the children completed a variety of different activities exploring the river and its uses. The children began by creating a sketch of the river and labelling it with key river terminology. We then explored the river and answered a vareity of questions about it including whether it looked like ti was slow or fast flowing, the colour of the river and if there were any signs of erosion at the banks. We then measured the speed of the river using metre sticks, a stop watch and oranges and finally we explored the impact, whether positive or negative, that human have had on the environment. We all had a lovely time a river and the weather was beautiful.
In Maths, we have continued to explore shape and have moved on to 3d shapes. We have initially began by looking at the names of a variety of different 3d shapes and identifying the properties of these shapes. We then moved on to beginning to explore the nets that make these different 3d shapes. We explored how we could begin to visualise the nets that make the different shapes.
On Friday, in RE, we caried out our final lesson based on the relgion of Islam and exploring the importance of the Five Pillars to all Muslims. We explored the final pillar of the Hajj (pilgrimage) and renacted the different stages and rituals that form part of the special religious journey. This was great as it enabled the children to remember the different stages. The children showed and excellent level of maturity and respect throughout this activity.
The Year 5 children also took part in the Halle on Wednesday, which was a wonderful experience for them.
I qam very much looking forward to next week Blakemere,
See you in the morning
