Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 04.07.2025

Date: 6th Jul 2025 @ 9:58am

It has been a strange old week here in Blakemere this week with lots of our children in and out on their High School transitions days. It has been so lovely hearing about everything they got up to whilst there and talking positively about their move to High School. This meant that our week was rather different to normal.

English

We spent some time in English learning about the life and work of Jacques Cousteau and some children produced a timeline of his life. We also explored two different events from his life and thought about how he may have bee feeling at these points, what he might have been thinking and what he may have been saying. Thes responses were created using evidence from the text to support the children’s thoughts.

Maths

This week, we have been exploring area in Maths. We started off looking at how area can be found by counting the squares on the inside of the shape. We then moved on to calculating the area of squares and rectangles by using the formular l x w. We will apply this learning next week to area of compound shapes and to triangles.

Science

We have started a new unit in science about the circulatory system. We have explored how it is made up of three parts: the heart, the blood and the blood vessels. We have looked at how the heart works and how it pumps blood around the body and how this movement can be described as a figure of eight. We even took on the role of the heart and blood and other organs in the body to explore the journey that it takes.

Geography

In geography, we have been looking at world trade, where we get different products from around the world and then the global supply chain of different products. We looked at the I-Phone and where it is made and where the parts that are required come from. We labelled this on a map. I have been really impressed with the children’s knowledge of how to use an atlas and locate different countries and then plot them on their own map.

Well done

A huge well done this week to Natalie for winning the raffle ticket prize and to Kai, Natalie, Roey, Tate and Phoebe for having their work selected for Excellent Examples. They will bring this work home with them next Friday to share with you.

Secret Question
Share our class blog with your child and send them in with the answer to this secret question to earn themselves some raffle tickets:
Nama a part of the heart

What can you do at home?
•    Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book in school with them every day. I will be checking this every day next week as we have some children who do not have their book with them regularly.
•    PE is on a Monday and Thursday so please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in on those days. Appropriate footwear is also encouraged. We will continue to be outside for PE on Monday’s along as it is not raining so it is incredibly important that the children have jogging bottoms to wear.
•    Year 6 swimming will continue now every Monday. Please make sure your children has their swimming costume, goggles and a towel with them for this.
•    Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed. Please record this reading each day on the online reading log. A new link is sent to you from Learning with Parents each week. I absolutely love reading the comments, seeing the photographs and hearing the audio clips of the children reading.
•    Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps.
•    Practise the list of spellings that are sent home. Please let me know of you need another copy of these.

Enjoy the rest of weekend and if you have any questions then please do ask.
