Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 06.06.2025
Date: 8th Jun 2025 @ 11:07am
We have had a very busy first week back in Blakemere and have achieved lots.
English
This week, the children have produced two excellent pieces of writing. They have retold a scene from The Legend of Beddgelert that we have been exploring and then researched and produced an information report about a chosen sea creature. I have really enjoyed reading the information reports and seeing how the children have produced them.
Maths
This week, we have explored 3D shapes. We have recapped on their names and properties to enable us to start to reason about their nets next week.
Science
We have come to the end of our science unit on light. We explored how shadows are formed and that a shadow will always be the same shape of the object that cast it.
Visit from a Dentist
On Tuesday morning, we were lucky to have a visit from a dental nurse who discussed and explored the importance of dental hygiene with our children from how and when to brush their teeth, to what foods and drinks should be taken in moderation, to discussions around how braces work. It was a really helpful and informative session.over
Year 6 Play
We have started our rehearsals for our Year 6 play – Blakemere: This is Your Life. The children have already shown great commitment and drive towards the rehearsals which I am impressed with. They have their own copy of the script and songs. Please can you support your child in learning their words and the songs and make sure their script is in school every day?
Save the date: Thursday 17th July at 4:00pm. More information about this and tickets will follow shortly.
Secret Question
Share our class blog with your child and send them in with the answer to this secret question to earn themselves some raffle tickets:
Name a 3D shape.
What can you do at home?
• Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book in school with them every day. I will be checking this every day next week as we have some children who do not have their book with them regularly.
• PE is on a Monday and Thursday so please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in on those days. Appropriate footwear is also encouraged. We will continue to be outside for PE on Monday’s along as it is not raining so it is incredibly important that the children have jogging bottoms to wear.
• Year 6 swimming will continue now every Monday. Please make sure your children have their swimming costume, goggles and a towel with them for this.
• Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed. Please record this reading each day on the online reading log. A new link is sent to you from Learning with Parents each week. I absolutely love reading the comments, seeing the photographs and hearing the audio clips of the children reading.
• Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps.
• Practise the list of spellings that are sent home. Please let me know of you need another copy of these.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend and if you have any questions then please do ask.
