Blakemere's Weekly Blog - 07.02.2025

Date: 9th Feb 2025 @ 7:51am

How are we coming to the end of our first half term after Christmas? Time is really flying in Blakemere now.

English
This week, we planned and started to write our magazine articles with the focus of exploring the issues of racial discrimination and inequality and celebrating the achievements of many black people throughout history. The children have focused on writing one section a day of their magazine thinking about the audience who they are writing too and the language choices that they use. I have kept having a sneaky peak as we progressed through the week and I am very much looking forward to seeing the final drafts. You will also have the opportunity to read this fantastic pieces of writing next week at pupil consultations.

Maths
This week, we have continued to explore decimals. We have ordered and compared them, we have found decimal remainders using division and we have started to find decimal and fraction equivalents for halves, quarters and fifths.

Science
This week we explored the stages of human evolution and looked at the changes and how humans have adapted to their environment over millions of years. We looked at the slight changes that occurred in each stage and how this has lead to humans being what they are today.

KiVa
On Friday afternoon, the children took part in a discussion around being parts of groups and our behaviour within those groups. We also looked at how our behaviour can impact on how others see us whether in a positive or negative way. We explored strategies for joining new groups and how this will support the children as they progress on to High School. I was particularly impressed within the discussions and engagement from the children.

Pupil Consultations next week
I am looking forward to seeing everyone at pupil consultations next week.

Children's Mental Health Week

This week, we have taken part in activities around Children's Mental Health Week and explored the theme Growing Together. Here is a link to a page on ouor school website abut the support we offer ein school.

Well done
A huge well done this week to Arabella for winning the raffle ticket prize and to Finley, Ava D and Rosabeller for having their work selected for Excellent Examples. They will bring this work home with them next Friday to share with you. Well done to Harry for receiving their Bronze Reading Badge over the next couple of weeks so keep reading. Well done to Holly for being selected as Blakemere’s Worker of the Week by her peers.

Secret Question
Share our class blog with your child and send them in with the answer to this secret question to earn themselves some raffle tickets:
Name one of the people you are writing about in English.

What can you do at home?
•    Ensure your child has prepared themselves for the week ahead by having their reading book in school with them every day.
•    PE is on a Monday and Thursday so please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in on those days. Appropriate footwear is also encouraged. We will continue to be outside for PE on Monday’s along as it is not raining so it is incredibly important that the children have jogging bottoms to wear.
•    Read with your child and encourage them to find books and reading materials that they are interested in. I am also always happy to help and recommend books if needed. Please record this reading each day on the online reading log. A new link is sent to you from Learning with Parents each week. I absolutely love reading the comments, seeing the photographs and hearing the audio clips of the children reading. Our reading has reduced over the past couple of weeks but is important that children are engaging with this regularly as it supports them in all areas.
•    Encourage your child to practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstar. Times tables are incredibly important in all areas of Maths and a fast and confident recall of them really helps.
•    Practise the list of spellings that are sent home. Please let me know of you need another copy of these.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and if you have any questions then please do ask.
